Are IPv6 addresses routing?

I have an IPv6 compatible modem (http://mydeviceinfo.comcast.net/device.php?devid=417) and my PC is pulling an IPv6 address and gateway.

I can ping the gateway:

C:\Windows\system32>ping fe80::201:5cff:fe63:ce46%3

Pinging fe80::201:5cff:fe63:ce46%3 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from fe80::201:5cff:fe63:ce46%3: time=7ms
Reply from fe80::201:5cff:fe63:ce46%3: time=7ms
Reply from fe80::201:5cff:fe63:ce46%3: time=7ms
Reply from fe80::201:5cff:fe63:ce46%3: time=7ms

Ping statistics for fe80::201:5cff:fe63:ce46%3:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 7ms, Maximum = 7ms, Average = 7ms

However, I can't get to google:

C:\Windows\system32>nslookup
Default Server:  cdns01.comcast.net
Address:  75.75.75.75

> www.google.com
Server:  cdns01.comcast.net
Address:  75.75.75.75

Any advice?

If you are a DHCP customer using a Comcast-supplied modem in translation mode the onlly modem currently known to properly work is the Netgear although the latest Cisco modem is supposed to work as well.

If your supplying your own modem then put it in bridged mode and use your own router.

When I ran the test, I was hooked directly from my Windows 8.1 64bit machine using an Intel I218-V with latest drivers ( https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/21642/Network-Adapter-Driver-for-Windows-8- ). I decided to reboot my cable modem which is only a few weeks old. After rebooting, I am able to traceroute to IPv6 addresses... Not sure if anything else changed aside from rebooting my modem, but thanks for your help! 😃 So this Arris/Motorola SB6183 does do IPv6!
