SB6121 - Modem Only?

I recently purchased the sb6121 modem thinking I could use it with my comcast business static ip setup but have since learned otherwise.  I'm now considering just switching to a dynamic IP so I can use the modem.

My question is whether the modem provides any kind of firewalling features or if it's purely a modem and I still need to have a router/firewall behind it?  The documentation is less than clear as to its capabilities.

Thanks!

THe SB6121 is a standalone modem; it converts coax to ethernet, enabling any connected device(s) to obtain a global IP address. You will need a separate router.

BTW, Motorola has released a few updated versions of the SB6121 - the SB6141 is the newest one that is compatible with business class. It's a higher performing modemd. If you can still return the SB6121 and swap it for the SB6141, I would recommend it.

Good info, thanks. I got the 6121 over the 6141 because of the higher level of certifications based on this page:

http://mydeviceinfo.comcast.net

But maybe those are irrelevant. I'll relook at the 6141. Thanks!
