Connect to a shared folder inside my network from an external host
Hi,
I have set up a shared folder in 1 computer connected to the WiFi and I need give access to this folder to our accounting guy. I configured port forwarding but I am not getting access to the folder.
Port forwarding is working; I have watch my security cameras in the office from a phone app every day.
The only difference that I see is the network connection: the DVR is connected thru cat5 cable and the computer is connected to the WiFi. Could be this the reason why I don't connect to the shared folder?
Thanks.

firstmed, I agree with Phil. It sounds like you're looking for remote network access and for that you'll need a VPN.
Yes-- you can set up forward ports on your BWG.
Port forwarding will only work if the local machine that you want traffic forwarded to is assigned an IP address in one of the private IP subnets:
10.x.x.x
172.16.x.x - 172.31.x.x
192.168.x.x

Hi firstmed.
I appreciate you posting your question about getting access to this folder remotely. This would be a personal networking issue and would be beyond the Comcast Business demarcation policy. I can say that you may need additional equipment/programs for this such as a VPN. I would recommend consulting with your IT professional group to have this addressed.

Hi,
Does that mean that the modem is unable to forward the SMB ports?
