Can I use NETGEAR CM500 for Comcast Business Class with one static IP address?

I have got a brand-new NETGEAR CM500 DOCSIS3.0 modem and I wonder if t can save my monthly modem rental fee.

NEGEAR says the CM500 is ComcastCertified and it can be configured to use a static IP address.

I have tried a Motrola/Arris SB6141 after being told by a Comcast tech support it would be compatible, but the reality was that I was turned down when trying to install it by another tech support telling me the SB6141 could not use a static IP address.

- Comcast Business Class account

- One static IP address

- Modem must use bridge mode

- NETGEAR CM500

Can I use?

Thanks,

hiro

Unfortunately you will not be able to use the CM500 with a static IP. If you have a static IP, you must rent a gateway from Comcast. The Netgear reps were wrong.

Even if you didnt have a static IP, you still wouldnt be able to use the Netgear as it is not listef as compatible for business service. The official list is at http://mydeviceinfo.comcast.net and while the Netgear is compatible with residential service, its not for business.

Thanks a lot for the very prompt reply. It's sad, but your reply saved me from wasting my time over the weekend for unsuccessful attempts.
