1/1 NAT loses WAN DNS
I have an SMC business gateway and just added a block of five additional static IP addresses. I was trying to test connectivity and through the 1/1NAT screen, I added one of the new IP addresses and mapped it to a local address (192.168.1.X) for a workstation set with a static address. The workstation at the local address then loses DNS and I can no llnger ping or connsect to it from the LAN.
Anyone know wha tiI am doing wrong? this should be very straightforward.

Hello nozmoking and welcome,
Not sure why you are trying to use a Nat routable.static.IP.address to an unknown 192.168.1.X backend router/dhcp dynamic address. Could you expand on this for us?
One very simple way to test that any of your static IP devices are configured and operating correctly is to just get onto the internet with any computer and ping routable.static.IP.address /t. If you get successful and consistent replies, you are good to go. If you get retries/failed replies, check to make sure that your static IP device's network configuration has these parameters:
1. routable.static.IP.address
2. gateway.static.IP.address
3. sub-net mask.static.IP.address
4. PriDNS=75.75.75.75
5. 2ndDNS=75.75.76.76
Hope this helps you out.

What I need to do is map one of the available extra static public I.P. addresses we have to a local static I.P. address for an on-premise mail server. DNS MX records would then point to the public I.P. address and consequently to the private address of the server, or its firewall.
I've done this before with other cable and ADSL routers so I'm not sure why I am losing connectivity.
Thanks.
