Tax Exemption Issue for Church

Would you be able to assist me with a tax exemption issue?

Our congregation is a non profit tax-exempt organization. We have been billed for taxes for over two years now, trying to resolve this.

We are recognized as "Religious Organization" that meets all the organizational and operational requirements of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Also, we provided a Sales Tax Exemption Certificate from Pennsylvania's Department of Revenue showing our exemption as a non-profit organization. And pursuant to the provisions of Section 508(c)(1)(A) of the Internal Revenue Code, “churches, their integrated auxiliaries, and conventions or associations of churches” as “mandatory exceptions” are excepted from “applying for [formal] recognition of section 501(c)(3) status.”

However, the Comcast agent on the phone told me only a 501(c)(3) certificate from the IRS will be accepted for tax exemption. No other vendor has denied us tax exemption with the state certificate provided.

Can you please help us?

Thanks.

Thanks so much for taking the time to reach out to us regarding your tax exemption concerns. I very much appreciate your patience and greatly apologize for the delay in our response. I know how important the services are to your business and we want to do all that we can to assist. I can understand how important it is to have your tax exemption status listed accurately on the account. We have many businesses reaching out for tax exemption requests, and I would be happy to review your request further.
