Old and new Xfinity speed tests...2 radically different results

So we upgraded our internert to the Comcast Business 500 download speed plan. Sitting at my desk and running a speed test on http://speedtest.xfinity.com/.  My results are 423.7 down/ 38.0 up, about what I would expect. When I use the "try our new speed test," link which takes you to https://speedtest-beta.xfinity.com/ i'm getting 117 download speed. (It doesn't report an upload speed.) Getting very similar results across multiple runs of both.

 

In comparison  Speedtest by Ookla (https://www.speedtest.net/) shows 122.34 down/38.72 up. Very similar to the new beta xfinity speed test but much lower thatn the original Xfinity speed test. 

 

I'm do have a Sonicwall UTM device and I"m not debating the effect that would have. I"m asking why the radically different results on new vs old Xfinity speed tests.

I appreciate you notifying us of the discrepancy in speeds. I have not seen any known issues with as of yet but it is still in beta testing. I'll have that reviewed. In the meantime, I would like to look into your speeds. I'll need your information in a private message. May I please have you private message me your full name, the name of your business, the full address of your business location and the phone number associated with your business account?

My results for download are in general agreement between the two xfinity speedtests.

 

However.

  • The beta speed test does not display or allow choosing IPv4 vs IPv6
  • The beta speed test does not check or display upload speed
  • The beta speed test does not check or display latency
  • The beta speed test does not check or display bufferbloat (neither does the production speed test)
  • The beta speed test has graphics that might entertain a small child

The beta speed test does not seem particularly useful for real troubleshooting.

Thanks so much for letting us know, LarryK! I'm glad it returned to normal but if you have any issues with it again, please give us the heads up so we can look into it 🙂

I reported "Bloated Speeds" on 3/21/19 with the same issue... the speedtest.xfinity.net was reporting much higher speeds than the Ookla speedtest.net.  And then it was back to normal....
