How do we block spam calls?

Our main line has reportedly been getting around 20 'Unknown Caller' IDs daily for the past couple weeks. Each time, the person answering the phone picks up only to have the line hang up immediately. We also get many spam calls in addition to these hangups. What does Comcast provide as a spam filtering service for business lines?

Hey ssearles, thanks for reaching out to Comcast Business support on our forums. There are several ways of doing it. For the unknown callers, anonymous call rejection should take care of them. To activate that, lift the receiver and listen for the dial tone. Press *77 and listen for a confirmation tone that the feature has been activated. There is also selective call rejection if you have the numbers and we can also submit a ticket to block certain numbers.

Ok, we've run the *77 and got the message that the anonymous call rejection is now active, so we'll see how that side goes. As far as numbers, the hackers are rotating their Caller ID numbers so we don't have any that are consistently calling. If we find some that are recurring numbers, do we specifically need to submit those to Support or is there a function in our account on the site where we can enter those blocks ourselves?

ssearles Here is a link with the details on how you can set up rules to block selected phone numbers, https://business.comcast.com/support/article/voice/enable-privacy-settings-for-business-voiceedge. Let me know if you have any additional questions!

Unfortunately, the numbers are nearly constantly changing - the only time the same number is used is if a repeat callback to us is made within a minute, and we've already gotten more than 12 distinct numbers of these calls this morning. Here is the list with time stamps from our last 60 that show in the call logs, if this helps with any tracking from your side:

@ssearles Thank you for reaching back out. We do ask that you not post phone numbers publicly. I see that we had provided a link to the instructions on how to set up rules to block certain calls. Were you able to set those rules up?

I'm currently using Comcast Business Voice and I can honestly say that they have no way to block those spam calls at all. It is very frustrating because they would call over 20 times [per day using random numbers. Im can't go online to add those numbers and there's no other app or services you can use to block those calls. I've called Comcast and talked to their representatives numerous times, but does not solve anything. I'm looking around for other companies to see what other options are, but staying with Comcast is not the solution. They are of no help at all. Terrible.

Hello, @user_d7c5fc thank you for reaching out over the Comcast Business forum. Sorry to hear of the frustration you're experiencing with the unwanted calls, and when calling in to try and get support.

Investigating, the options for blocking calls I can find are: Annonymous Call Rejection:

  • On the phone: Lift the receiver, listen for the dial tone, and press *77.
  • Online: Sign in to the Xfinity Voice Call Blocking Settings page with your Xfinity ID and password. Find the Anonymous Calls Rejection (ACR) section and select the "Block all anonymous calls" box

Selective Call Rejection:

  • Online: Sign in to the Xfinity Voice Call Blocking Settings page and add numbers to the block list. You can also block numbers from your call history or voicemail screen.
  • On the phone (for some plans): Dial *60 or #60, press 2 to add the last incoming call, or dial *60 and enter a specific number to add it to the list.
  • Via My Account: Sign in to My Account, select Phone, then Feature Settings, then Privacy, and add a new rule for selective call rejection.

For Comcast Business Mobile users:

  • Download the Xfinity Call Guard app from the App Store or Google Play.
  • This app identifies and filters nuisance calls, marking them as "Potential Spam" or similar on your screen.
  • This feature is included with the Unlimited Premium data option for Comcast Business Mobile customers.
