Call-Waiting? Incoming 2nd calls get dropped...

Hello world -

New lines installed and for some reason while the first line rings and calls can be answered as normal, when a 2nd call into our single line comes in, I do not hear a call-waiting beep or tone so I called in my self on two phones and realized that those 2nd call's are being dropped.

Is there some way I can check to see if I have call-waiting enabled or if it's not part of my service. I do not have a PIN in the mail yet and am hesitant to call in. Was hoping the guru's hear might have the answer - I did  a little reading but nothing I've seen has worked.

Any help would be greatly apprecaited --

Hello joealbergo and welcome,

If you have an intrinsic hunt group or Call Forward Busy (CFB) hunt structure, which allows if Telephone Number (TN) 1 is busy and you want it to roll over or hunt to TN 2, then you would need to have your Call Waiting (CW) disabled on these TNs. The reason for this is because if you have CW enabled this has priority over CFB or instrinsic hunt. So, then your 2nd caller will be click into CW, this requires you to put the first caller on hold, then pickup the second caller, and after speaking to the second caller, go back to the first caller.

Therefore, the cleanest means by which to use intrinsic or CFB hunt group/structure is to simply disabled CW and smooth call roll over will occur. By all means if you do not require any hunt group and want to capture duals sets of incoming calls on one TN, CW will meet this business requirement.

Hope this helps you out

Rich !

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond  !

We only have one phone line - and I was hoping that it does have call-waiting features on the line.

The other line we have is for Fax only -

Is there any other way for me to check this out?

Thank you brother -

Yes, absolutely Joe. You can activate and deactivate your Call Waiting by using various star codes. Please check out this download link and select the second New England link if your Comcast Business is located within or just use the first link if not in New England. All the star codes for controlling your telephone number via the dial tone activation are available within these downloads.

Hope this helps you out.

Alright the PDF is a great start -

I started to dial into the Comm voice system and setup the PIN and recorded voice.

I used the *Features to disable what I didn't want to use and "Call Waiting" is auto-enabled.

Is there a possibility that I do not have call-waiting or is it standard with all voice lines through Comcast?

Because I tried and I am still getting no call-waiting beep and my 2nd caller just get's 3 fast beeps and disconnected.

No voicemail.

Yes, those downloads are great stuff for all business class customers to have.

If you have a full featured (FF) telephone number (TN), then you definitely have Call Waiting (CW). If you have a basic data line that are typically used for FAX, Credit Card Machines, etc., then you do not have any of the full features except for Call Forward Not Reachable (CFNR).
